CICERO GEORGE ELDERLY HOUSING

STUDIO : MACONDO
YEAR : 2007
STATUS : DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

PROGRAM : A winning entry by ODA team in an invited competition hosted by Hispanic Housing Development Corporation, the design responds to the urban context of the busy Cicero corridor with Auto Sales stores on one side and Chicago residential on the other.

The design expresses itself in true forms and material through the use of precast concrete. The scale of this six story building is segregated to create a sense of a cluster of buildings, with the corners framed to provide presence on the street while playfully addressing the massing. The building serves to act as an Urban Oasis and a safe haven for the elderly residents – Central Atrium spaces encourage social gathering, Community courtyards and terraces provides a setting for indoor-outdoor interaction for the residents. The design incorporates green design strategies including passive solar design, day lighting, alternative energy sources and green roof.
