F.W.REILY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

STUDIO : MACONDO
YEAR : 2003
STATUS : COMPLETED

PROGRAM :

Oda Team as part of Macondo designed this two story annex of 35,000 square feet to an existing elementary school. This building houses 10 classrooms , laboratories, a library, gymnasium and a lunch room. This structure was awarded “The 1995 Best of the Block” award by the Illinois Indiana Masonry Council. It was also nominated “The Most Functional School” at the 1996 National Principal’s Convention in San Francisco, California.

The block long classroom facade is articulated and accented with colored concrete block, which helps bring the scale of the building down to a more intimate elementary school scale. The towered entrances with their tiled roofs are meant to recall the smaller and more intimate schools of the past.
