INSTITUTE OF PUERTORICAN ARTS & CULTURE, HUMBOLDT PARK

STUDIO : MACONDO
YEAR : 2007
STATUS : UNDER CONSTRUCTION

PROGRAM :

This winning selection to design the interior of a former stable in one of the largest parks in the City of Chicago parks and boulevards system, is an unique challenge. The stables are designed in a style that follows the Bismark tradition of German architecture of the mid 1800's and the interior was to house the Center for Art and Culture of Puerto Rico. Our team spared little time to find the architectural pattern of design that could accomodate both cultures and indeed address them with sensitivity and appreciation of both cultures. The design not only addressed the needs for this museum and educational facility but also addressed historic preservation requirements, ADA compliance, but environmental requirements to achieve LEED Silver status. The final result is a 25,000 square foot facility that is occupied year around with all sorts of classes and cultural performances.
